Dyslexia

We are very proud to have been awarded Dyslexia Friendly Full Status in July 2012 in recognition of the environment and teaching methods that we use consistently with all children.  Being a Dyslexia Friendly school enables us to meet the individual needs of our Dyslexic pupils, those with Dyslexic tendencies and support children who have delayed English skills. In fact it has been found that more children are successful when taught using Dyslexia friendly teaching methods. Therefore we fully subscribe to the guiding philosophy of the Dyslexia Institute, which states:

‘If a pupil can’t learn the way we teach,
then we must teach in the way that he can learn …….’

We also recognise that a child’s self-esteem and confidence is central to happiness and success in school. The children are made aware that Dyslexia and other impairments do not prevent achieving your personal goals and we have famous people who are positive role models displayed around school to demonstrate this.

Our current status is due for renewal and we have the verifiers coming into school on July 13th to see if we have continued to meet the criteria set by the British Dyslexia Association to gain the accreditation.
